Mario Zucca
Winter 2025 - Spring 2025
Mario Zucca is a multidisciplinary artist and illustrator based in the West Mt. Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia. With over 20 years of experience as an independent freelance illustrator, he has received recognition from prestigious organizations including American Illustration, Creative Quarterly, the Society of Illustrators in New York, and the Society of Illustrators in Los Angeles.
Mario's passion for cityscapes and exploration is evident in his acclaimed series of illustrated maps, which he began nearly a decade ago. A fusion of his love for travel, geography, typography, and "Where’s Waldo"-style illustrations, the series debuted with a map of Philadelphia. Since then, he has expanded the collection to include maps of Pittsburgh, Portland, OR, Buffalo, Kansas City, Detroit, Milwaukee, Texas, Chicago, and the U.S. national parks system. These vibrant, detailed maps are available in their entirety at mariozuccamaps.com.
Sports also play a central role in Mario’s creative output. His athlete portrait series and Spo-Mos (short for “Sports Moments”) reimagine famous—and infamous—moments in sports history, capturing the drama and emotion of those iconic events in a fresh, miniature form. Mario has had the privilege of working with major sports franchises, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers, as well as the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Most recently, Mario has launched the Philly Eats series, celebrating the city's vibrant food and drink culture—one iconic restaurant, cheesesteak joint, and dive bar at a time. This ongoing project, which started earlier this year, is documented on Instagram and available for purchase through his Etsy shop
